As Bennington County’s Parent Child Center, Sunrise provides services to nurture and support families particularly those with young children. Many of our services are available to all families within our communities. Others are tailored to families with particular concerns.     Parent Education

Classes/Workshops are offered throughout the year for parents of children of all ages. Free or modest charge to cover materials.

          Support and special interest groups: Groups with a particular focus are
         offered
throughout the year. Current offerings include teen parents’ group 
         and women's skill sharing group.

Community Picnics: Held monthly from May to October. Lunch plus activities for families and information of interest to parents. Free and open to all.

     Resource and Referral

     Children’s Integrated Services (CIS): A resource for families when they have questions or concerns about their child’s development during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.

    Services for Families with Young Children

Early Care and Education: Nationally accredited center-based care provided for children 6 weeks old through age 3; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Priority given to children of parents enrolled in other Sunrise services.  Payment based on fee scale with childcare financial assistance available.

          Family Support (formerly Healthy Babies): Home-based service offering information and support to pregnant women and parents of infants and children up to six years. This benefit is available to Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur recipients.

          Early Child and Family Mental Health (formerly CUPS): Outreach mental health consultation service to families and caregivers of preschool-aged children who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioral challenges.

Job Club: Help for individuals on Reach-Up in updating their skills in preparation to earning a steady paycheck.

Opportunities: A place for success: An alternative education program for pregnant and parenting young adults who are seeking a high school diploma. Provides academic help, life skills, family support and work experience.

    Family Preservation

Family Advocacy Program: Prevents out-of-home placement of children and supports family reunification efforts.  Referrals screened by community team.

Parent Educator: Home-based parenting support and education for families with children under 12 as referred by their DCF worker.

    Adolescent services

Youth Development: Service for youth in state custody, ages 15-21, to help them develop the skills necessary for independent living.

     Community Development

Sunrise staff meet regularly with local and state partners to develop and support a system of well-coordinated, comprehensive services for all Vermont families. We are an active participant in such local efforts as the Early Childhood Council, Children’s Integrated Services, Success by Six, Child Protection Team, Local Interagency Team (LIT), Bennington County Childcare Association, Maternal and Child Health Coalition, Healthy Babies, Kids and Families, Adult Ed Council and many others. Staff also are available to talk with community groups and agencies on a number of topics related to family-centered services, children and parenting.
